Online dating companies are currently preparing for Dating Sunday, the busiest 24 hour period in the industry’s calendar.

The increased activity is widely regarded as being a result of singles treating the new year as a fresh start, potentially after being questioned by their family over the holiday period.

The day annually falls on the first Sunday of the new year (5th January 2020) with many people having the aim of finding a new partner before Valentine’s Day.

Selective dating app The Inner Circle has come up with several predictions ahead of the day. It believes there will be a 33% increase in the number of matches, to go along with a 29% rise in new members joining the app.

Founder and CEO David Vermeulen said in a statement: “The popularity of dating apps is continuing to grow immensely, so we’re expecting to see an even greater surge in people joining the app, starting conversations and organising dates this coming Dating Sunday.

“Although Dating Sunday is the busiest day, activity is still noticeably higher during the first two weeks of January, making the whole month a great time to start dating.”

Meanwhile, Hinge is also looking forward to continued growth all throughout January as the month was particularly profitable in 2019. Downloads increased by 38% compared to the previous month.

The app is always encouraging people to take their interactions offline nd users appeared to act on that advice 12 month ago as the number of dates they went on grew 53%.

Just over one million messages were sent on Coffee Meets Bagel during Dating Sunday last year, the most on a single day in the app’s history. Comparatively, Bumble is anticipating more than 20 million messages will be sent this time around.
